Meet our people: Glen Smith

Team Employee ownership

Some of you might have met Glen before! After a few entrepreneurial years, he's back to help our clients meet their digital transformation goals.

Tell us about what drew you back to Zoonou?

I spent almost 4 years at Zoonou between 2017 and 2021, and I always loved the working environment here. The approach to everything is clear and pragmatic, and culture and values are truly prioritised. The transition to employee ownership presents a huge opportunity for growth and I'm keen to use my experience to help drive that forward.

What have you been up-to during your time away?

It's been an entrepreneurial few years for me. I worked alongside my brother in a role as the sales and marketing director at enhance.com, a challenger product for the webhosting industry. I then ran my own marketing business, SORA, which is primarily focused on video production for SMEs (and some large corporates). In the background, I worked with my partner to open a family-focused gym in our hometown of Eastbourne, called Stronger You.

How do you see the B Corp principles influencing the way we build client relationships?

Becoming a B Corp strengthens Zoonou’s credibility and helps us attract and retain like-minded clients who value ethical, purpose-driven business practices. This fosters deeper trust, long-term partnerships, and meaningful conversations, positioning Zoonou as more than just a service provider but a mission-aligned partner.

How do you think the QA industry has changed?

The developments in AI and automated testing are really interesting. I think for businesses that are reliant on digital products, it's more important than ever to zoom out and build an effective test strategy that utilises both automated and manual methodologies. Also, there's certainly a greater awareness around accessibility and security, and more businesses are recognising the value of building strategic test plans into their release cycles, with both ethics and compliance in mind.

What have you noticed about our company culture now, with employee-ownership in place, compared to when you worked with us before?

I think employee ownership has strengthened a lot of the values that were already in place (teamwork, transparency, ethics to name a few), and that is especially important in a remote-first working environment. Everyone is on board with the overall goals of the business, and everyone is working as a team to reach them.

Having a Board of Trustees seems to have been a really positive step, helping to give all members of staff a say in the ongoing development of the business.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

My original background was in Sport Science, and I worked as a coach in my early 20’s. I only happened to fall into sales/marketing after a couple of years and it’s been my career ever since.

I think there were a lot of transferable skills that contributed to my success, and I’ve always enjoyed coaching more as a passion rather than for work. I still coach in my spare time and have recently opened a gym locally with my partner, Demi.
