We’ve joined the Better Business Act Coalition

The climate crisis, social inequality, and environmental degradation are issues that require collective action. They can no longer be seen as peripheral concerns for businesses, but as critical elements that shape the long-term success and sustainability of any company.

The Better Business Act (BBA) proposes a shift in how businesses legally operate. The change would require company directors to consider their social and environmental impact alongside shareholder returns - putting people and the planet on equal footing with profit.

Why we signed the Better Business Act

As an employee-owned, B Corp we believe that businesses have an opportunity – and moral responsibility - to drive positive change.

Being a B Corp means we already hold ourselves to high standards of accountability and transparency. We’re committed to this through the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence. As an employee-owned company, we also believe that those most affected by business decisions should have a voice in shaping them. Our ownership model ensures that employees are more than just team members – they’re co-owners, sharing in the success, direction, and long-term vision of our company.

The Better Business Act movement perfectly aligns with these values. This sense of collective responsibility and long-term thinking is at the heart of what the Better Business Act aims to achieve: a shift toward responsible business practices that benefit all, not just the few.

Reframing the purpose of business

The BBA, led by B Lab UK, is about more than making a legal change; it’s about rethinking the purpose of business itself. This amendment to Section 172 of the Companies Act would legally require companies to balance shareholder profit with the interests of employees, customers, local communities, and the environment. By embedding these stakeholder interests into law, we’re moving towards a more resilient, sustainable, and fairer economy.
