Five ecommerce websites. One successful launch for Dune London.

We helped Dune London manage the risks of migrating five ecommerce websites, protecting the customer experience and supporting a successful launch.

Dune London is a British footwear and accessories retailer with an international ecommerce presence.

In 2020, the company embarked on a major digital transformation project, moving five ecommerce websites to Salesforce Commerce Cloud. The move would modernise its ecommerce platform and improve the online shopping experience. But with five websites scheduled to go live simultaneously, there was little room for error.

Five websites. One launch

For Dune, the challenge wasn't simply moving to a new platform - it was making sure customers could continue to shop without disruption.

Everything needed to work together, from product searches and promotions to payments and order confirmations. The new websites also needed to perform reliably under demand, work across different devices and be accessible to customers with disabilities.

With no dedicated internal QA team to manage testing at this scale, Dune needed a partner who could take responsibility for quality across the project. Rather than bring in an individual contractor, the company chose Zoonou for our independent approach and ability to provide a team with different testing specialisms.

We were looking for a UK-based QA company with proven experience in testing retail websites. They needed to be a good team fit with us and our Systems Integrator. In comparison to the other test providers we spoke to, Zoonou's approach resonated best with us!

Looking beyond whether the websites weorked

We developed an end-to-end testing strategy around the risks that mattered most to Dune:

  • Customers being able to shop.

  • Transactions completing successfully.

  • The websites remaining reliable through launch.

Our team worked across the five websites, testing complete shopping journeys and the integrations that supported them, including payment providers such as PayPal, Klarna and Google Pay.

We also checked that information had moved correctly between platforms and that customers would have a consistent experience across browsers and devices.

But a successful launch meant more than getting the essential functionality right.

Our accessibility specialists identified barriers that could prevent disabled customers from using the websites, while performance testing helped the team understand how the new platform would respond to different levels of demand.

Together, these activities gave Dune London a clearer picture of its launch readiness and the issues that needed attention.

We knew the replatform would step us forward but having an accessibility audit really showed us how much work is required to really meet the guidelines. The issues raised were clearly laid out, and the report explains things in simple business terms.

A launch that protected the customer experience

All five websites went live together.

For Dune, the value of independent testing became clear at the point that mattered most: customers could continue shopping without the launch disrupting online revenue.

It’s absolutely imperative to get a good testing agency onboard to ensure your project goes live with minimal issues. Zoonou played a big part in that for us, particularly as we had five sites all going live at once! The testing from Zoonou ensured a great experience for customers and no revenue impact for us as a business.

The project gave Dune London confidence in a complex platform migration, with issues identified before launch and specialist testing covering areas that could easily have been overlooked.

More importantly, the team could move forward with its new ecommerce platform knowing that the customer experience and continuity of sales had been prioritised throughout.

Dune London was subsequently named a finalist for Best Fashion eCommerce at the 2021 eCommerce Awards.
