We're looking for an experienced Quality Engineer who combines strong technical testing skills with the confidence to take ownership of projects and work directly with clients.

You'll join our team of software testing specialists, working across a variety of technologies, industries and delivery environments. You could be embedded within a client's development team, leading testing on a project or helping a client improve their approach to quality.

We're looking for someone who can get to grips with complex systems, investigate technical issues and make informed decisions about what needs testing and how. You'll be comfortable working independently, collaborating effectively with team members, and building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

What you’ll do as a Quality Engineer at Zoonou

You'll take a hands-on role in delivering QA solutions for our clients, with the responsibility and autonomy to shape how testing is approached.

Depending on the project, you'll:

  • Take ownership of testing activities, from understanding requirements and identifying risks through to test execution, reporting and release support.

  • Lead and coordinate testing activities, providing direction to others where needed.

  • Work directly with clients, developers, product owners and delivery teams to understand technical requirements and agree testing priorities.

  • Design and execute functional, exploratory, integration, API and regression testing.

  • Investigate complex technical issues using APIs, databases, browser developer tools, application logs and other diagnostic resources.

  • Understand how systems and services interact, identifying risks across integrations, data flows and end-to-end processes.

  • Develop appropriate test approaches, adapting testing techniques to suit different projects and delivery environments.

  • Communicate testing progress, findings and risks clearly, helping clients make informed decisions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve testing processes, coverage and efficiency.

  • Apply test automation where it adds value, working with existing frameworks or contributing to automated testing activities.

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours

We're looking for someone with strong technical testing experience who can confidently take responsibility for delivering testing within a client project.

You'll need:

  • Proven experience owning testing activities across software delivery projects, including test planning, prioritisation and organisation, execution, and defect management.

  • Strong hands-on experience in functional, exploratory, integration and API testing.

  • Practical experience testing APIs using tools such as Postman, including working with requests, responses, authentication and error handling.

  • The ability to write SQL queries to investigate issues, validate data and understand how applications interact with databases.

  • Experience using browser developer tools, application logs and other diagnostic resources to investigate defects.

  • A good technical understanding of software architecture, system integrations and data flows.

  • Experience working directly with developers, product owners and other stakeholders in Agile delivery environments.

  • The confidence to work independently, make decisions and provide direction to other testers when required.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues, challenge assumptions and discuss risks directly with clients.

  • A practical, analytical approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn new technologies.

It would also be great if you have:

  • Experience with test automation tools or frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress or Selenium.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git or cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.

  • Experience testing complex integrations, data migrations or enterprise systems.

  • Experience improving testing practices or introducing new tools and approaches.

  • ISTQB certification or other relevant technical qualifications.

Working hours and location

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:30

  • Location: Remote, office-based or hybrid - whatever works best for you. If you’re working remotely, we’ll ask you to travel to our Eastbourne office from time-to-time for team collaboration, company events and other activities. There may also be occasions when you’ll need to travel to a client location as part of a project.
